An Official Plan is long-term planning blueprint that guides how all land within a municipality can be used and developed over the next 20 to 30 years. It sets out the vision, principles, goals, objectives and policies to direct the growth, physical change, and design of the municipality as a whole.
It also sets standards for the review and approval of future development applications to balance the interests of:
- Developers and neighborhood residents
- Province, municipality and the community
- Social, economic and built and natural environments impacts
