Belleville’s newest City Councillor, Margaret Seu, has been officially sworn into office. Mayor Neil Ellis, Chief Administrative Officer Matt MacDonald, Director, People and Corporate Services Marie Doherty, Deputy City Clerk Katy Macpherson and Michael Summers joined her for the swearing-in ceremony at Belleville City Hall this afternoon.
Councillor Seu will fill the seat that has been vacant since last month when former councillor Tyler Allsopp took on his new role as Bay of Quinte Member of Provincial Parliament. Following a report from Corporate Services on options to fill the seat, Belleville City Council made the decision to appoint Councillor Seu as the seventh place finisher in Ward 1 in the 2022 municipal election.
Councillor Seu has owned and operated several businesses, and currently works as a financial representative in the community. In addition to her employment experience, she has also served on several local boards and associations including the Eastern Ontario Korean-Canadian Association where she served as president, organizing Canadian/Korean veterans appreciation ceremonies, among other duties.
She currently sits on the board of directors for the Federal Korean – Canadian Association where she organizes and takes part in seminars on the health and wellbeing of our aging population. As a member of the Belleville Rotary Club, Councillor Seu has been involved in many community events and initiatives including the Quinte Rotary Music Festival and Kids Against Hunger. She also sits on the Mission Thrift Store board. Councillor Seu is focused on the shared values of family and economic growth.
“I am very pleased to be joining Belleville City Council for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term,” said Councillor Margaret Seu. “As I take on this new role, I am eager and driven to enhance the education of children, as well as the health and well-being of seniors. I am also hopeful that we can continue to promote strong inclusion and harmony in our community, encouraging cultural celebration.”

Councillor Seu will participate in her first Belleville City Council meeting on Oct. 28.
