Quinte West’s official announcements are hidden after 2 months, 4 years of posts kept online
The City of Quinte West’s news section on publishes official announcements from City Hall:
Quinte West only allows residents to browse less than 2 months of official announcements before the posts are either are hidden. As of November 12, 2025, the oldest post available was from September 3, 2025:
However, posts stay published and available in search engines for up to around 4 years.
Municipalities must prioritize accountability and transparency. When official announcements are removed from public view after 2 months, it undermines that responsibility.
This practice is actively detrimental to government transparency:
- Accountability: When links to the City’s posts posts hidden, residents are blocked from reviewing past programs or statements. This makes it more difficult to hold the City accountable for its promises.
- Research: Deleting these primary-source announcements makes it more difficult for citizens, journalists, and researchers to track local issues. A permanent, public archive is a fundamental component of open government.
If Quinte West wants to build trust, it should maintain a permanent, searchable archive of all past announcements. Maintaining a complete public archive is a minimal-cost, high-value commitment to transparency.
