motion

The City of Belleville did not have a stand-alone Election Sign By-law. Any language regarding Election Signs is contained within Section 4.2(1) of By-law Number 2006-055, A By-law to Regulate Signs and Other Advertising Devices in the City of Belleville.

The draft Election Sign By-law establishes requirements and restrictions respecting:

  • elections signs erected by candidates (municipal, provincial and federal) and registered third parties
  • the physical characteristics of election signs
  • the content of elections signs
  • timing for the placing of election signs
  • location of election signs
  • elections signs on private and public property and
  • removal and/or impoundment of election signs.

The draft Election Sign By-law is structured to clearly set out how elections signs shall and shall not comply with the above-noted requirements.
