Municipal elections in Ontario will be held on October 26, 2026 with the next term of office set to begin on Sunday, November 15, 2026.

Voters in the province of Ontario will elect mayors, councillors, school board trustees and all other elected officials in all of the province’s municipalities. Municipal elections in Ontario are non-partisan, meaning there are no political parties.

Dates

For voters

  • School support designation change deadline: June 1, 2026 (school-support.mpac.ca)
  • Add name to voters list deadline: August 12, 2026 (visit registertovoteon.ca)
  • Election day: October 26, 2026
  • New term of office begins: November 15, 2026

For candidates and third party advertisers

  • Nomination period begins: May 1, 2026
  • Nomination/withdrawal deadline: Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
  • Municipal clerk nomination certification: August 24, 2026 at 4:00PM (Monday immediately following Nomination Day)
  • Voters’ List available to candidates upon written request. First day an elector can appoint a proxy: September 1, 2026
  • Third party advertiser registration deadline: October 23, 2026
  • End of campaign period for candidates and third party advertisers: December 31, 2026
    Last day to file a Notice of Extension, Form 6, to continue campaigning to erase a deficit.
  • End of 30-day grace period (initial): April 29, 2027
    Candidates who miss March 30 have exactly 30 days to file and pay a $500 late fee before penalties (like losing their seat) take effect.
  • Court extension application: March 25, 2027
    Filing deadline to apply to the Superior Court of Justice. Last business day before the March 30 deadline.
  • Initial financial statement filing deadline: March 30, 2027 at 2:00PM
  • End of extended campaign period: Wednesday, June 30, 2027
  • End of compliance audit period (initial): June 28, 2027
    Electors have exactly 90 days from the filing deadline to request a compliance audit of a candidate’s finances
  • Court extension application: September 23, 2027
    Filing deadline to apply to the Superior Court of Justice. Last business day before the Sept 24 deadline.
  • Supplementary financial statement deadline: September 24, 2027 at 2:00PM
    Applies only to those who extended their campaign period.
  • End of 30-day grace period (supplementary): October 25, 2027
    The 30-day grace period for the supplementary deadline (Sept 24) technically lands on a Sunday, so by provincial law, it rolls over to Monday.
  • End of compliance audit period (supplementary): December 23, 2027
    The statutory 90-day window to request an audit on extended campaign finances.
