Every municipality that maintains a municipal board [Police Service Board] shall prepare and, by resolution, approve a diversity plan to ensure that the members of the municipal board appointed by the municipality are representative of the diversity of the population in the municipality.
The plan shall be published on the Internet in accordance with the regulations made by the Minister, if any.
The municipality shall review and, if appropriate, revise the plan at least once every four years.
Section 28 of the Community Safety and Policing Act
The Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 as established by the Ford PC government’s Bill 68, Comprehensive Ontario Police Services Act, 2019 to replace the Police Services Act, 1990 came into effect on April 1, 2024.
A municipality must approve its first diversity plan before the later of April 1, 2025 and 1 year after the municipality creates the municipal board.
