As of November 15, 2024, the BPS website is no longer blocking search engines and is available in Google.
The Belleville Police Services website (https://www.bellevilleps.ca/) has been not available in major search engines such as Google and Bing since October 1, 2024:
This is because the website’s code specifically instructs search engines not to show the website here:
The robots tags should be changed to “index” and “follow” so that people looking to contact the police through official channels are able to do so.
I emailed the Belleville Police Service on October 1, 2024 to advise them of the issue and recommended forwarding it to the webmaster.
I followed up on October 29, 2024, advising BPS that the issue is making it more difficult for residents to access police resources.
As of October 31, 2024, the BPS website is still not available in Google or Bing and I have not heard back on my follow-up.
