Point of Order

Point of Order is a statement made by a Member during a Meeting regarding a departure from or contravention of the rules and procedures, such as those outlined in the Procedural Bylaw or Robert’s Rules of Order.

Example use

Point of Order by Councillor Gord Perks
Councillor Perks, rising on a Point of Order, stated that there was a debate on sixplexes not that long ago, and that while Councillor Holyday might not have the letter, the information from the federal government was used in open debate the last time Council talked about sixplexes.

Ruling by Speaker Frances Nunziata
Speaker Nunziata accepted the Point of Order and ruled that the letter would be circulated to Members of Council as soon as possible.
