Councillor Brown’s motion to cap Ward 2 residential property tax increase at 3.75% defeated in a 4-4 vote

Motion

That Council approve the 2026 Operating Budget Guidelines as outlined in the Manager of Finance’s Report No. DDF-2025-09.

Mayor Ellis assumed the Chair during the discussion to enable Councillor Brown to provide comment and bring forward an amending motion on the matter. Councillor Brown resumed the Chair after the vote on the amending motion.

Amending motion

That the Budget guidelines point 1 be amended so that the overall residential property tax rate shall not exceed 3.75%; therefore bringing Ward 2 residential property tax rates to not exceed 5% including increases generated from the 2024 Fire Master Plan.
