A Property Identification Number (PIN) is a unique 9-digit numbers assigned to each property in Ontario by the Land Registry Office (ONLand) managed by the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement and contained in POLARIS (Province of Ontario Land Registration Information System).
It is used to associate all legal documents, including deeds, mortgages, and liens, with a property.
A PIN consists of:
- Block Number – first 5 digits identifying a contiguous group of properties within a larger geographic area, such as a township or municipality
- Property Number – last 4 digits – identifies the individual property within that block.
For example: 73470-0247 (LT)

PINs are used for land registration and legal ownership purposes, while Assessment Roll Numbers (ARN) are assigned by MPAC for property assessment and taxation purposes. The boundaries are often the same, but not always and PIN and ARN are maintained in separate databases.
