NDP, Green Party, and Liberal candidates for the 2024 Bay of Quinte by-election debated for the second time. The debate was pre-recorded and hosted by YourTV (Cogeco 4/700) studios in downtown Belleville.

PC candidate Tyler Allsopp withdrew from the second debate hours before it started due to scheduling conflict. At the time, the Ontario Minister of Health Sylvia Jones was in Hastings County announcing $910M to increase the availability of ambulances across the province.

The following candidates were invited to make a video submission, but no submissions were received:

  • New Blue Candidate Margaret Schuler
  • Libertarian Candidate Mark Snow
  • Independent John Turmel

Debate was posted to YouTube, then removed on election date

The debate was pre-recorded and hosted by YourTV (Cogeco 4/700) studios in downtown Belleville. It was published to the YourTV Quinte YouTube channel here:

However, on election day it was removed and remains unavailable:

According to the Manager of Programming and Community Relations for YourTV, they “expire all election programming the night prior to the vote”.

When asked about the rationale behind this policy, given recordings of past provincial and federal electoral debates are still available on their YouTube channel in full:

Our channels remove all election-related programming for election day. The video is still there but private.

We have decided as a department to remove our programming the night before.

I believe [the policy] has been since we started using social media and adding content to our websites, but I won’t be able to pinpoint a date.
