New Zoning By-law 2024-100 Now in Effect

On March 11, 2024, Belleville City Council passed Zoning By-law 2024-100. The mandatory 20-day appeal period has now ended, and the new Zoning By-law is now in effect for all lands within the City of Belleville.

A Zoning By-law manages present and future land use in the city, and is a tool used to implement the Official Plan’s vision for the city on a day-to-day basis. It divides the city into land use zones. Each zone has a list of permitted land uses and a set of regulations. There are certain regulations that apply to specific uses permitted in each zone, and general regulations that apply to all properties in any zone.

“This new Zoning By-law is a significant step in the right direction to help us reach our housing targets set by the Province for the Building Faster Fund,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “It will effectively remove red tape to facilitate new development in our city and ensure we are able to keep up with the demand. Valuable input from residents has made this new by-law possible and we greatly appreciate the involvement of our citizens throughout this process.”
