Cobourg Development Services Ltd. has been awarded the contract for the first phase of reconstruction of Farnham Road. Mayor, Council and members of the project team were pleased to take part in the official groundbreaking ceremony for the project today.

Work will take place on Farnham Road from Maitland Drive to Kipling Drive and will involve the reconstruction of the roadway to an urban standard, complete with new concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, catch basins and storm sewers, and the extension of municipal watermain and sanitary sewer. The first phase of the project is anticipated to be completed by the winter.

The roadway will remain open for local traffic only, where possible, throughout the duration of construction, with lane closures and detours when required.

“It is great to finally be at the construction stage of this important project,” said Councillor Paul Carr. “Farnham Road reconstruction had been on a deferred capital project list and would have remained there; however, I am pleased that the previous City Council approved my motion to have it added to the 2022 Capital Budget. This allocation allowed staff to proceed with design and necessary approvals. I am pleased that City staff have finally issued a contract and work can get underway. Reconstruction of Farnham Road to an urban standard has been a priority of residents as this area has experienced significant residential growth.”

“This important section of Farnham Road connects Canniff Mills and Heritage Park to the rest of Belleville,” said Councillor Kathryn Brown. “As the surrounding area develops rapidly, it serves all road users including people walking, cycling or driving. This project will accommodate this significant growth and we’re excited to see it finally beginning.”
