QNet News: Bay of Quinte MPP candidates on the change they want to see

QNet News reached out to the three major party candidates running in the riding. Progressive Conservative candidate Tyler Allsopp did not return calls before deadline.

The Quinteist: Five questions with 3 of 4 main parties

  • Why are you running for office?
  • What sort of background and skills would you bring to the role?
  • Health care — including access to family physicians and increasing wait times at clinics and emergency rooms, as well as for surgeries — is a major concern for many in the area. What would you do as MPP to help the situation?
  • Beyond housing and health care, what is a major issue facing the region that you would like to address as MPP, and how would you do so?

The same five questions were sent to Progressive Conservative candidate Tyler Allsopp, however Quinteist has not yet received his responses. They will be published to our website if and when they are received.

Getting time off work to vote

Your employer must provide you 3 consecutive hours on election day (September 19) to vote, between 9am and 9pm according to Section 6 of the Election Act. The employer must not make any deduction from pay, penalize the employee or request proof of voting or be liable for a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment for a term of up to two years less a day.

However, an employee who is scheduled to work 9am to 5pm would not be entitled to additional time off since they would have 3 consecutive hours upon finishing work to vote.

Open Council believes that all employers should give their employees the opportunity to leave and vote on election day at a time that works best for them.
