Rollins Drive and Chelford Crescent Reconstruction Project Now Underway

K. Mulrooney Trucking Ltd. has been awarded the contract for the reconstruction of Rollins Drive and Chelford Crescent. The project will involve the reconstruction of the roadway to an urban standard, complete with new concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, and replacement of the watermain, storm sewers and sanitary sewers.

Work will take place on Rollins Drive (from the Victoria Avenue intersection to roughly 400 m north) and Chelford Crescent (from the southern Rollins Drive intersection to the first bend, roughly 140 m east) and is expected to be completed by Nov. 15, 2024.

Funding for this project was provided in part through the federal government’s Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF), formerly known as the federal Gas Tax Fund.

The CCBF provides permanent, stable funding for municipal infrastructure across the country, supporting local projects that have a direct community benefit. The fund is delivered in Ontario annually through the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

“I am proud that we’re able to support this project that will make commuting safer and more efficient in Belleville,” said the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. “We will continue supporting projects that make lives easier for Canadians, and keep them safe, from coast to coast to coast.”

“On behalf of the City and Council, I would like to thank our partners at the provincial government for this crucial funding,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “This section of Chelford Crescent was first constructed in the 1960s. Since then, we have seen a fair amount of development in the area including construction of Lanark Drive and extension of Rollins Drive. This funding will allow us to reconstruct the deteriorating original section of the roadway to ensure it is a viable transportation option for residents in the area for years to come.”
